According to the 2004 Job Service North Dakota Labor Marketing Information, counties in "Coal Country" have some of the highest average wages per job in North Dakota.  The average wages of coal mine and utility employees in coal country ranges from $67,000 to $68,000 as compared to the statewide average wage of $28,987.
